Single Channel Virtual Oscilloscope

Description

This virtual oscilloscope simulation is an accessible tool for students being introduced to electricity and circuit concepts. It realistically replicates the behavior of a single-channel oscilloscope connected to AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current) sources, allowing users to observe and analyze basic signal characteristics in real time.

Components

The simulation includes:

  • A low-frequency function generator (LFG) with adjustable frequency, fine-tuning, and amplitude, producing sine, triangular, and square waveforms
  • A DC generator with adjustable voltage
  • A GND mode selector to ground the signal and establish a zero-voltage reference line
  • Real-time waveform display, replicating how signals appear on actual oscilloscope screens
  • Screen magnifier for improved trace readability

Learning Outcomes

This hands-on tool provides a clear and visual introduction to waveforms, signal characteristics, and oscilloscope operation — ideal for intermediate physics classes instruction and early electricity units in a virtual lab setting.
